Question: I am interested in buying your floor cleaner, but I am looking for a product that is safe for pets. I own a cat and would like a product that will not have harmful effects on my cat if she walks across a floor that was just cleaned. Even if the floor is dry cats tend to lick their paws, picking up any chemical residue that's left behind. Will your products be safe for my pet?

NEU Homecare products are not tested on animals, so they are cruelty free. We do not know what the specific possible effects might be because this situation has never been specifically tested. I do not know of any cleaners that have been tested for this type of situation because feeding cleaners to a cat (to see what might happen) would be very unethical and a horrible, horrible thought.

In a general sense, the NEU Floor Cleaner does have a neutral pH (pH balanced), so it is non-corrosive and non-hazardous to skin, pet or human. Corrosive chemical residues, found in typical store bought floor cleaners, would be a problem in this situation because of the irritation to the cat’s paws, tongue and mouth. The NEU Floor Cleaner does not contain these corrosive chemicals, so it is more gentle to skin than products containing the corrosive inorganic ingredients.

As a general rule of thumb, it is always a good idea to prevent ingestion of any cleaner by pets or humans. It is a cleaner after all. As difficult as it might be, it is always a good idea to try and contain the cat while you clean to minimize the potential of picking up cleaner residues (from any product). Because the NEU Floor Cleaner is neutral and organic, the risk to the cat should be minimized. However, an extra fresh water rinse step on the floor would also be a good idea.

Thanks again for your interest in NEU Homecare.

Sincerely;
